Poll: Should the Help to Buy scheme be scrapped?

Under the scheme, first-time home buyers are able to apply for a grant of up to €20,000.

THE HELP TO Buy scheme was introduced in last year’s Budget.

Under the scheme, first-time home buyers are able to apply for a grant of up to €20,000.

Since its introduction, however, there have been numerous criticisms that the scheme has ramped up the cost of housing rather than encouraging building.

The government has strongly signalled that it will scrap the scheme in this year’s Budget as a result of this, just a year after it was introduced.

However, defenders of the scheme have said that it is stimulating the development of more starting homes.

What do you think?

Today we’re asking, Should the Help to Buy scheme be scrapped?
